AGUA.
My first short film, realized in collaboration with the filmmaker Mirko Manda, is a self portrait, in which I address a personal struggle on life choices.
''She is born from water, she lives in the water, she is made of water. Blue is her safe space, the infinite flow of her own body and mind. Grey is heaviness, the rock that crushes her under its weight. What is that she wants? Is it to live her life fighting against a rock too big to handle? Or is it better to dare to try flowing and swimming on her blue?''.
JAZZ (R)EVOLUTION.
A video project in collaboration with Claudia Quaglia and Tony Flower
which investigate the role of Jazz in our artistic development.
We asked ourselves 'What is Jazz for us?'
The answer is summed up in this word: (R)EVOLUTION.
Evolution, because Jazz pushed our artistic curiosity and sensibility further.
Revolution, because it questioned all our beliefs.
CHAPTER I: MILESTONES.
''Celebrate your roots as you prepare for the road ahead''.
The first chapter is about where all the processes begin. Basics, foundations, knowledge, history.
CHAPTER II: THE BRIDGE
''Playing against the sky really improves your volume''.
The second chapter takes inspiration from the story of the saxophonist Sonny Rollins. In 1958 he took a long break from his music production and spent two years playing day and night on Williamsburg Bridge. He came back realizing his best album 'The Bridge' with a completely new style. It's a ground of fusion, of experimenting, of trying out.
We cross the bridge, ready to go further.
CHAPTER III: SEARCHIN'
''I listen as I play, I am not caught up in defining the music I play''.
The third and last chapter of this journey is about answering that very first question: What is Jazz for us? How did Jazz influence and shape us? This adventure is about us, about the deep self, the composer in all of us, about originality, meaning that which is fully and originally ourselves.
HANDS SELF PORTRAIT.
Inspired by the video performance Hands by Jonathan Borrow, I have been interested in the narrative and dramaturgy the hands create, acting alone. I present my character too, which wear eclectic ties and oversized suits. Minimal details, but effective.
GAMES.
This is a video study, filmed and edited by myself, based on improvisations tasks me and Claudia Quaglia were trying out during my visit to Amsterdam. Waacking influenced arms shapes, gentle flow, physical fusion of the bodies create a broken visual meditation.
TEN YEARS.
This is last Awanawaack company video project. We are a collective of dance artists specialised in Waacking Dance. Filmed by Michele Macaluso and edited by Sarah Pandolfini.
''Ten years together. We've pictured in the symbolic crowd of this theatre the people who created our story with us. Dancing with our naked souls in front of all of them. Changing, evolving, but always staying true to ourselves.''
